We offer full contraceptive services and advice at our surgery. You can make an appointment or just drop in to see one of our trained practice nurses. We can also provide emergency contraception and contraceptive services to non-patients.
Cervical Smear Screening
In line with health authority policy, we recommend a smear every five years until aged 65, unless greater frequency is advised. To ensure maximum accuracy, if you still menstruate, it is advisable to have a smear taken between 10 and 14 days from the first day of bleeding. Call us at the beginning of your period to enable us to secure an appointment for the appropriate days.
Smoking Cessation Clinic
Stopping smoking is the best thing you can do for your own health and the health of others around you. So if you would like support in quitting please contact reception to book in to our smoking cessation clinic. The smoking cessation clinic is held at Danbury Medical Centre every Monday evening and at Mountbatten House Surgery every Thursday morning.
Some minor surgery procedures are performed in normal surgery times.
Medicals for special purposes, for example pre-employment, fitness to travel and insurance, may be arranged by appointment. A fee will be payable. A list of fees is displayed at reception.
Flu Vaccinations/Pneumococcal Vaccinations
Flu vaccinations are available each year for those at risk, including patients over 65 years of age, diabetics, severe asthmatics and those suffering with chronic heart or lung conditions and renal problems. Appointments must be booked through the reception team.
Patients with Diabetes are advised to have their eyes check for retinopathy once a year.
Primary Care Research
As a Research Active practice we take part in a number of projects each year. These projects are co-ordinated by the Primary Care Research Network part of the National Institute for Health Research.

- Alcohol & Drug Abuse Service
A Family Planning Clinic is weekly, alternative Mondays & Wednesdays 5.00-7.00pm and is also booked in advance.
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
- Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
- Insurance claim forms
- Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
- Private sick notes
- Vaccination certificates
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
